7 WAYS SUGAR IS RUINING YOUR SEX LIFE

A wide range of factors such as drinking, smoking, exposure to environmental toxins, chronic stress, sugar and others can ruin your sex life, but in this post, my focus is on sugar. Excess sugar is, without a doubt, one of the biggest culprits that can easily knock your sex hormones out of balance. This includes sugar in “healthy” foods such as candy, cakes, cookies, dairy desserts, sweetened drinks, etc.

1.      SUGAR LEADS TO FATIGUE

Eating sugary food causes your blood glucose to shoot up. This puts the pancreas in overdrive, which produces excess insulin. The effort of managing glucose levels causes blood sugar to drop. With a sugar roller coaster like that, neurotransmitters in your brain get disrupted and combined with low blood sugar levels, fatigue comes in. Fatigue means you’ll be too tired for sex.

2.      EXCESS SUGAR CAUSES VAGINAL DRYNESS

Consuming sugar in high amounts can be the reason some women have vaginal dryness. This causes a decrease in sexual pleasure and a problem of painful intercourse. Solution; lower your sugar intake and buy a sugar-free all-natural lubricant.

3.      Excess sugar can cause nerve damage

As time passes, high blood sugar levels can start damaging the nerves and hence neuropathy which can lead to numbness, tingling and extreme pain. No wonder foot problems are a common symptom of diabetes. It can also result in pelvic neuropathy (weakness), which affects sexual function directly.

4.      Sugar interrupts your microcirculation

Your erogenous zones get nourished via tiny little blood vessels, especially your clitoris. Insufficient blood flow means that erogenous nerves won’t receive the nutrition or oxygen required to function. Damaged circulatory organs can impair a woman’s ability to feel intimate pleasure, which only aggravates vaginal dryness. In men, damaged blood circulatory vessels can cause erectile dysfunction.

5.      Sugar increases your body’s cortisol production

The sugar you eat pushes your body to produce the stress hormone, cortisol. The sad news is that high cortisol levels which cause increased stress can lead to a low sex drive, irregular menstrual cycle and erectile dysfunction.

6.      Excess Sugar leads to yeast and bacterial infections

A body with high sugar levels is a perfect breeding environment for yeast and bacteria. Of course, no one wants to have an itchy, painful or uncomfortable infection like UTI or bladder infection because it wrecks libido besides other negative effects.

7.      Sugar disrupts your feel-good hormones

The higher the amount of sugar you consume, the more feel-good hormones like dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins get altered. So, if you cannot keep taking increasing amounts of sugar, these healthy mood hormones may not help your body to achieve the same sexual response as previous. This means ineffective sugar levels can cause depression, which is an obstacle to good sexual function.

Whether you’re a man or woman, never let sugar ruin your sex life. The bottom line is to stay away from too many sugary foods and drinks to avoid serious sex life issues such as erectile dysfunction, low libido and a decreased sex drive.

In my next post, I shall look at how you can balance your hormones to support a healthy sex life.
