How to make your own cleaning wipes. (Suzzy Muke)

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have greatly increased our use of wipes. However, disinfecting wipes are not cheap and because we use them so much, the cost increases. Therefore I started looking for a  way to cut down the cost of wipes, and the cheapest way is to make my own wipes.

Today, I would like to share with you three ways you can make your own antiseptic or antibacterial wipes without breaking the bank.

1. Alcohol disinfecting wipes: I simply purchase cheap wipes from the dollar store. I buy regular baby wipes from the dollar store for about $1.50 and I think there are about 50 wipes in a pack. Then I take 99% rubbing alcohol in about a quarter cup and pour it in those wipes and I have my alcohol wipes at a very low price.

2. All-purpose cleaning wipes: Mix half a cup of vinegar to a cup of water and a teaspoon or two of dish soap. Add essential oils of choice. I like tea tree, orange, and clove but this is entirely optional.

If you don’t have essential oils, you can make citrusy vinegar with citrus peels and use that for your wipes.

How to make citrusy vinegar.

Use a potato peeler to peel the skin off your oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. Soak these peels in vinegar for two weeks then strain and bottle your citrusy vinegar. This vinegar will be infused with essential oils from the peels. Use this vinegar to make your mixture for your wipes.

You will also need good-quality paper towels that won’t easily fall apart when soaked. I use bounty paper towels. Viva is a good one too. Alternatively, you could cut up old t-shirts to wipe size pieces and use them to make your wipes. These are even more cost-effective as they are cloth and can be washed and reused.

Use a serrated knife to cut the paper towel in half. Put half the paper towel in an air-tight container. You can use an old wipes container for this.

Pour your mixture into the paper towel making sure the entire roll is soaked.

Let it soak for a few minutes then pull out the cardboard roll in the middle. This will also start your paper towel roll.

Fit the first towel through the hole on your lid, close the lid, et voila.

3. Glass cleaner wipes: I used to buy glass cleaner liquid from Amway because it was the only glass cleaner that worked so well for me. I find that the store-bought ones don’t work that well. Now I make mine that works even better than my Amway one.

Here’s how;

Mix a cup of water with a cup of rubbing alcohol and a cup of that citrusy vinegar in a spray bottle et voila.

No more spending tons of money on disinfecting wipes.
