JUICING FOR SICKLE CELL. BENEFITS OF GREEN JUICES

I have been making green juices for many years now. As a sickle cell patient, the benefits of juicing cannot be overemphasised.


First of all, I do not always have a lot of appetites so I can’t get all the daily value of my vitamins and minerals through food because I would really have to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables to reach that daily value.


Secondly, when food is cooked, it loses a lot of its nutrients through the cooking process. Juicing or eating my vegetables and fruits raw gives me the benefit of having more nutrients.


Since childhood, I have never been a fan of vegetables, but I find it easy to drink my vegetables in juice form.


Green juices are rich in chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. 


Here are some benefits of green juices.


💚It helps combat anaemia and supports healthy blood levels


💚It contains calcium that helps strengthen my bones 


💚It helps detox and clean my body


💚It is rich  in antioxidants that help reduce inflammation

Antioxidants help protect us from free radicals, thus significantly reducing inflammation


💚I find it hard to drink lots of pure water, so green juices along with teas and soups help increase my fluid intake. 


💚It helps strengthen my immune system 


So here is a straightforward and power-packed green juice recipe I do almost daily to help me boost my health.


🥦1 Green apple


🥦One cucumber or several sticks of celery


🥦A handful of Kale


🥦A handful of Spinach or any dark green leafy vegetables of choice 


🥦A small piece of Ginger 


🥦The juice of one lemon


🥦3-4 garlic cloves 


 I always add garlic cloves to all my juices or smoothies to help me fight infection, as well as a piece of ginger to help me with inflammation.


Juice everything and enjoy. 


If you don’t have a juicer, you can blend everything except the lemon, and sieve. Then you squeeze the juice of one lemon in it and enjoy.
